An Interview with Jr. Coach Hannah Kerlan
Meet Hannah Kerlan. Hannah began Jr. Coaching with Girls on the Run Memphis in Spring 2021, for our Shelby Farms Community Team. As a student at St. Mary's Epsicopal school, Hannah was looking to connect her love for service with her interest in health and wellness. Hannah graduated this Spring from SMS and will continue pursuing her passions at Vanderbilt University.
Here is her 'Why' for giving back to GOTR Memphis:
1. Why did you choose to you become a Jr. Coach: I chose to become a junior coach because I am an aspiring educator with a passion for the belief that health has both physical and mental components-- not either or! This ideology would have been helpful to learn and adopt when I was the age of a gotr girl, so by joining gotr as a junior coach, I felt inspired to be a part of an organization that both preached and practiced this message!
2. Favorite GOTR Memory: My favorite memory from my time with GOTR Memphis would most definitely have to be the GOTR end-of-season 5k. There is simply nothing more exciting than seeing all of the girls excited to unite their purpose with their passion, crossing the finish line knowing that their work paid off, but the exciting journey that they started is life-long!
3. Why Get Involved: A high schooler should get involved as a junior coach because it provides an opportunity that not many organizations offer. By serving as a junior coach at an age that is old enough for the girls to still want to listen to but young enough for them to still see you as a role model, you have a unique responsibility and opportunity to both teach and learn!
