Bryce Ellis: Discovering a passion for mentoring
I am writing this testimonial to express my gratitude and appreciation for my experience as a volunteer coach for Girls on the Run. When I first started as a coach, it was merely to fulfill my community service hours requirement during college. However, throughout the season, I discovered a true passion for mentoring and supporting young girls in their physical and personal growth.
My journey with Girls on the Run began as a runner myself, and I was immediately drawn to the organization's mission to inspire girls to be confident and joyful through running. As a coach, I was able to witness the incredible impact that the program had on the girls' physical abilities and youth development. Their growth and development inspired me to continue volunteering and supporting the organization even after my initial commitment was fulfilled.
One of my most memorable experiences with Girls on the Run was during October 2021, when I had the opportunity to participate in a 50-mile race with only six days' notice. Despite the challenge, I was driven to complete the race, thinking about the Girls on the Run mission and the girls I had mentored. I wanted to be an inspiration to them and prove that they can chase their dreams and reach their goals, no matter what obstacles they face. I am proud to say that I became the youngest person to complete the race and the only African American to attempt it.
Now, returning as a Girls on the Run coach, I am even more motivated to further the values and mission of the organization. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself and to make a difference in the lives of young girls. I am confident that my experiences as a coach will continue to shape and inspire me for years to come. Girls on the Run is more than just an organization – it's a community of individuals working together to empower and uplift young girls. I am proud to be a part of it.
