Marcie Mulhern and Audrey Calkins are two new members of the Girls on the Run Board who have already hit the ground running with their involvement in the organization. In addition to serving on the GOTR Board, Marcie is the Team Manager for our site at Hanley, a new team that is already thriving thanks to the strong support system they have found in their coaches and volunteer helpers. Audrey has been extremely active at outside events for GOTR, representing the organization at the Lane Purser Road Race Series this summer and letting visitors know all about what we stand for and how they can get involved–just like she did.

Q. Why are you excited to be involved with GOTR?
MARCIE: Girls on the Run is an incredible organization that builds confidence, creates opportunity, teaches lifelong lessons and healthy lifestyles for girls in our community. I love what GOTR is doing in our community to help young women, and I am proud to support this organization and see these young women thrive.
AUDREY: I am excited to be on the GOTR board because I find the GOTR message so encouraging and important. I cannot imagine a better message than pairing movement and exercise with lessons on emotional health, how to be a good friend, and how to engage in positive self-talk. I would have really benefited from the GOTR mission when I was younger. I love the GOTR Memphis goal of bringing the program to girls from all backgrounds in as many different areas of the city as possible.
Q. What is your work outside of Girls on the Run? Is there anything special you’d like to highlight?
MARCIE: As a mother of two daughters, an avid runner and a professional fundraiser, I have a passion for youth organizations that empower younger generations and help these individuals grow to be the best version of themselves.
AUDREY: I have three W-2 jobs! My full-time job is being an Assistant U.S. Attorney and defending the United States, its employees, and its agencies in civil litigation. (I also need to state that everything I do on the GOTR Board, including this post, is in my capacity as a private individual.) If I weren't a lawyer, I would be a teacher. To that end, I also teach LesMills BodyPump and Sprint at the Church Health YMCA, and I teach a pretrial litigation class at Memphis Law.
We’re excited for all our new Board members to get to attend their first ever Girls on the Run Memphis 5K Celebration this weekend. It’s such a rewarding experience to see the culmination of everything their hard work and dedication has been for over the last several months. Meet Audrey and Marcie this Sunday, November 10th, at the 5K in Overton Park–and come celebrate our #GOTRGirls!
